KIN is pleased to present a solo presentation of new work by Angharad Williams. Under the title, nature is nature is nature but also so much more depending on your perspective, the presentation brings together large-scale paintings that depict schools of trout alongside a new video in which the viewer is cast as Williams’ narrator.

The presentation continues Williams’ fascination with the trout as an art historical subject but also as a playful self-portrait.

From the artist’s debut novella Eraser (published 2023) Williams posits the narrator’s experience of thinking herself into the minds and skins of other things that leads to the ecstatic killing of a trout through the use of ancient fishing methods. Circling the theme of
desire as projection, this body of work traces the fragile line between empathy and appetite, identification and extraction, intimacy and consumption. It stages this breach as not always inevitable, opening a space for new possibilities and interpretations.

Across the booth, the six paintings bear titles such as: “thought you into a splash”, “half a minute went by like half an hour”, “see her in her trance”, “look at us both here like this – orchestrations of carbon”, and “paragon of animals”. The titles are all borrowed from critical moments in the chapter’s denouement. The paintings assemble distinct iterations of trout in novel and sometimes lonesome configurations across an expanse of blue. Each presents a strange speculative scenario, yet all retain a curious serenity: a wholeness that precedes predation.
