Join the founder of KIN, Nicolaus Schafhausen and artist Simon Denny as they reflect on the differences between the art world today and the one they met in almost 20 years ago. This conversation takes place on the occasion of Denny’s upcoming solo exhibition at KIN that will present an installation that Nicolaus Schafhausen first encountered in 2006 at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in New Zealand. The installation, Less stale attachment, marks an early moment in Denny’s practice characterised by a material-based approach that has since developed into the distinctive aesthetic that Denny has honed over the last two decades – merging technology, politics, and systems of power. The conversation will pull apart the similarities and differences in approach, and how changes over time and over cultural context can have a profound impact on the direction of creative work. In a moment of increasing nationalism, the artist and gallerist will reflect on their relationship to working across borders and methodologies.
